BIAOV and Tierney Stauffer LLP invite You to an Evening with Alvin Law

Alvin Law was born without arms. What may have become a tragic life-story did not turn out that way. Today, Alvin is not only a completely independent, remarkably successful professional speaker, but proof that out of nothing can arise one of the most inspiring stories you will ever witness.

The Brain Injury Association of the Ottawa Valley (BIAOV) and law firm Tierney Stauffer LLP bring Alvin’s special message of the power of the human spirit and his own “Alvin’s Laws of Life” to Ottawa in a fundraising evening being held October 14th, 2010 at the Sala San Marco on Preston Street.

Drawing on 25 years’ experience as a speaker – but more importantly on 45 years’ experience living life without arms – Alvin shares his highly personal story of achievement in spite of enormous challenges. Alvin’s Laws of Life equips audiences with the five keys to eliminating excuses and living powerfully. Painting with words, Alvin seamlessly connects his insights with humorous and emotional stories from his own life. His customized, professional and enthusiastic presentations feature a performance on the keyboard and drums as proof positive of his success in overcoming obstacles.

Ottawa Food Bank
Our firm has been supporting the Ottawa Food Bank over the last several years. In lieu of a client Christmas party this year, our firm donated money to the Ottawa Food Bank. On December 4, 2009, Erin Crotty and Ian Stauffer were invited to appear on the "Christmas Cheer Broadcast" by the CFRA radio station (live at the Rideau Centre) to present our donation and to discuss the importance of giving back to the community and to those less fortunate, particularly at this time of the year. In addition, Susan Mitchell has been volunteering for the Ottawa Food Bank drive at the Ottawa Courthouse.Description lorem ipsum dolor sit amet

Third Annual BIA Fundraising Gala

Our firm believes in giving back to the community. This is evidenced by the important community and volunteer work that many of our lawyers do. Our firm is a strong supporter of the Brain Injury Association of the Ottawa Valley. The BIA is a non-profit charitable organization that offers education, information, hope and support to brain injury survivors, their family members, friends, caregivers and professionals in the Ottawa Valley region. Our firm was instrumental in establishing and organizing the Annual Fundraising Gala for the BIA.

The inaugural Fundraising Gala was held in 2007. Over the last two years, Tierney Stauffer has assisted the BIA in raising close to $100,000. The Third Annual BIA Fundraising Benefit Dinner will be held on Monday, October 5, 2009 at the Sala San Marco Banquet Hall on Preston Street at 6:00 p.m. We are fortunate Frank O’Dea – celebrated entrepreneur, founder of the Second Cup, and author of “When All You Have is Hope” – as our Key Note Speaker. We are also excited to have Michael O’Byrne of CTV as our MC again this year.

Please join us in helping to support this worthy organization by attending the Benefit Dinner, sponsoring the event, or donating an item for our silent and live auction. For further information about the Third Annual BIA Fundraising Benefit, please contact Erin Crotty, Managing Director, Tierney Stauffer LLP at ecrotty@tslawyers.ca or 613-288-3234.

The Annual Lawyer Play
Ten years ago, Ian R. Stauffer, a partner with our firm, was contacted by a GCTC staff member and asked if he would like to help them create the Lawyer Play. For eight years, Ian held the reins as the Lawyer Play Committee Chair, until stepping down in 2006. It is with great pride that we are able to announce that Ian has produced the play, Lost in Paradise, for the Tenth Year Anniversary of the Lawyer Play. The annual Lawyer Play brings together more than 40 Ottawa judges, magistrates, and lawyers as actors in the play. Each year, Tierney Stauffer LLP has been a major sponsor. Funds raised support the GCTC and a rotating charity partner. Over the last 10 years, this event has raised over $600,000.

Each year, the firm initiates and supports an annual charity golf tournament in order to raise money for the Home. The tournament is always a great success. On June 19, 2008, we held this year’s golf tournament and helped to raise over $50,000. Over the past 12 years, the firm has raised in excess of $500,000.00 for the Home.
