Ian R. Stauffer

Ian graduated from the University of Ottawa (LL.B), Queen´s University (B.Ed.) and Carleton University (B.A. Honours) and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1983. He has a broad background in civil, criminal and family litigation and now concentrates on insurance, employment, defamation and commercial issues. In addition to general trial and tribunal work, Ian has particular expertise in cases involving juries.

Ian is certified as a specialist in civil litigation by the Law Society of Upper Canada and is approved to act as a defence counsel with respect to solicitors´ and pharmacists´ negligence. He lectured at the University of Ottawa for ten years, writes frequently on legal issues and is involved in the continuing education of lawyers and the public.

Mr. Stauffer was appointed a Deputy Judge of the Small Claims Court in 2000 and was also elected that year as a Trustee of the Carleton County Law Association.

A very important development in Ian´s practice occurred in 1999 when he was appointed a Mediator on the court-connected Roster. Mr. Stauffer has conducted over seven hundred mediations throughout Ontario. He also acts as an arbitrator. Ian was appointed a chartered mediator by the ADR Institute of Canada in 2002.

Ian´s volunteer work has included: the United Way, Operation Go Home, the Youville Centre and the Trend-Arlington Youth Softball Association. He is the organizer of the annual Law Day Run/Walk for charity.
